The Nothing Phone

The Nothing Phone

The Nothing phone is the 1st phone from the start up which made the nothing ear (1) ear buds in 2021.  The founder of this phone company is  Carl Pei and this phone will be on the markets today July 12, 2022.

The phone has a different new look to it, when compared to the other major phone providers like Samsung or the iPhone at first glance. It has a transparency look to it, in the sense that we can see the led notification lights on the back of the phone. Which many phones do not provide currently, so it seems nice to see that subtle glowing led notification light telling us what's going on. Like if you get a phone call, or a text message, or new tweet.

There is over 900 led lights on the back of the phone, making a unique pattern. It is around the dual camera's, wireless charging pad in the middle, and some lines going towards the corner of the phone and down by the charging port at the bottom of the phone.  The phone does have a smooth, clean looking light bar.  They call this the Glyph interface.

This Glyph interface makes the phone light up during notifications and does light up and glow during wireless Charging and reverse wireless Charging, which seems cool.  The whole Glyph interface can light up at once, it can be viewed as a fill light for the cameras.  It is some what bright led lights, for instance we can use it for some closeup or in dark room shots,  which can be convenient.

There is  a feature, when you plug in the usb-c to charge the phone it lights up at the bottom bar and shows the progress of charging of the phone. Of course we don't want that to be turned on all the time, so it turns off after a few seconds.  Whenever  you want to check on the progress of the charging,  you just have to wiggle the phone a little bit. It will light up and you will be able to see  how much it's charged up.

The interface allows you to control how the lights work when they are on and for what notification you want them to turn on for. There is 10 built in ringtones and its cool how the nothing phone has made light patterns to match its ringtone. For example you can make it so a certain ringtone will go on, for a contact number. So even if the phone is muted you will know  who is calling you by just looking at the pattern of the ringtone.

Some questions to consider are

Will this be enough to attract new buyers ?

Will this new look be appealing to those who typically put a case on their phone ?
