Chinese surveillance balloon in Canadian airspace ?

Canadian officials have said, Chinese spy balloon has spent time over the Canadian airspace.

On Feb 2, 2023 a surveillance balloon was identified at high altitude. After reports from Americans of a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon over that country, NORAD is tracking its movements.

Global Affairs Canada has reached out to the China’s Ambassador regarding the surveillance balloon.

The Department of National Defense officials have said Canadians were safe, and the the federal government is dealing with the issue. They are taking the steps to protect the security of the Canadian airspace, and are, monitoring for any other issues.

Things are unclear, as to the location and time of when the balloon had reached the Canadian airspace.

China’s foreign ministry has said the balloon was for public meteorological and scientific purposes, and they regret that it went into the U.S  airspace. They will monitor the situation and will communicate with U.S. to regulate the situation.

A senior defense official has said the U.S. is highly confident  that the balloon was a Chinese high-altitude balloon, and it went over sensitive locations to collect information.

Press secretary Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder has said NORAD is tracking its movements, it did go over the center of U.S.  The balloon did not cause any damages or harm to the people on the ground.
