Burglars break into Windsor Castle - Steal 2 vehicles
Police have confirmed that two masked thieves broke into Windsor Castle, one of King Charles III's residences, and stole two vehicles from a barn on the property.
The burglary at Windsor Castle occurred over a month ago, on October 13, but it wasn't reported until Monday when British tabloids published the story. Thames Valley Police confirmed the incident on Monday.
Thames Valley Police reported in an emailed statement to Reuters that the thieves broke into a farm building on the property and stole a black Izuzu pickup and a red quad bike. They then fled towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area. The incident occurred just before midnight local time.
Reports indicate that King Charles and his wife Camilla were not at the estate when the theft occurred. However, it is believed that Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children were at Adelaide Cottage, which is also on the estate and about a five-minute drive from where the incident took place.
The burglary represents a major security breach at the Royal Family's Crown estate. It's reported that the intruders climbed over a six-foot fence at Shaw Farm, an active farm on the estate, and then crashed the stolen truck through a farm gate to make their escape.
There have been previous security breaches at Windsor, including a significant incident on Christmas Day in 2021. On that day, an intruder named Jaswant Singh Chail, who was armed with a crossbow and claimed he wanted to kill Queen Elizabeth, was arrested on the grounds. He was later sentenced to nine years in prison.
